My Mission
To promote and advocate for postpartum rehabilitation for every woman.
There is so much education about pregnancy and birth and then we are left with a complete void of how to manage our bodies postpartum. We have accepted for generations "common problems" after birth as normal. Common does not mean normal. Incontinence, prolapse, sexual pain/dysfunction, weakness, diastasis recti are all COMMON but are NOT normal. The pregnancy and postpartum period is not treated like any other orthopedic injury and women are given very little guidance on appropriate return to activity and exercise. The goal of Mothers on the Mend is to provide educational information about common conditions and complaints and conservative treatment options and resources so that women can advocate for themselves in the postpartum period.
PHYSICAL THERAPY FOR POSTPARTUM WOMEN NEEDS TO BE STANDARD OF CARE.
And I won't stop advocating until it is.

About Me
Emily received her doctorate of physical therapy degree from UAB in 2012. Her career has primarily been spent in outpatient orthopedics and women’s health. She has received advanced training in dry needling, instrument assisted soft tissue mobility and pelvic rehabilitation. It was her own struggles after having babies that sparked a passion for prenatal and postpartum rehabilitation. Her goal is to empower women with the education and tools they need to heal their bodies after birth. Emily is passionate about community education and the promotion of physical therapy intervention after birth. She is married to Matt Gilmore and mother of 2 kids, Ellis who is 3 and Gunner who is 1. She enjoys good restaurants, hiking, a nice dry Chardonnay, exercise, traveling, and spending time with family at the lake.
